do da shocks lock out?

The front fork on the 15 locks out; the one on the 5 does not. I don't
think the rear on either locks out, but I don't know.

I use my front lockout a lot. The rear doesn't need to (for me). Nice
thing about the Maverick design, and why it climbs well. I'll post more
in a bit.

Bummer!!! HOw's your pedal stroke?

I have never noticed bobbing on my old bike except when I stood up,
which I never really do. When I stand up, it depends on if I mash
(bob bob bob) or if I make an effort to keep my body still (but
that's a huge strain on my quads, so I can't do that very long at
all).

Unless the rear auto-locks somehow, I can't imagine I'd go to the
effort of locking the back. I mean, everything I've done so far,
I've done with full susp. The people I know who have lock-out
suspensions say they never bother to actually use 'em.

That's a reason I like the Epic. It locks out for you and it actually works
really well.
You can stand and mash on climbs if you like and it knows what to do. Weird
but cool.

The new 2005 LX will be out (most likely) this Fall. I think it would
be a good idea to wait until then to pick up a sweet deal on a bike
with this new group installed. Buy a used clunker to get you by until
then...

Do you mean LX components, like, shimano LX?

Yes, it's Shimano Deore LX.

You think it's a good idea for me to sit out the best months of biking
so that I can get next year's LX components?

No, like I noted, I think it would be a good idea to buy used and save your
money for later.

I don't understand why you think this is a good idea ... please explain.

Because the 2005 LX is sure to offer the best money to performance ratio.
Since you are going to spend the money for an LX level bike, and since the
new LX is just a few months away, you might as well wait for it. Just my
opinion, tho.

In any case, there is no way I'm going to wait half a year -- or even
several months -- to ride a decent bike. Call me impatient.

Sounds like your mind is made up. GO buy your Palomino. Besides, it's one
of the few full suspension bikes I've seen that are actually pleasing to my
eyes. It's a good looking bike.

Hotdamn. With a seatpost angle like that you better make sure you get the
right size frame. Raising the saddle for instance 2 inches is going to
increase your cockpit ( toptube) almost as much.

That seatpost angle is actually one reason that it fits me better than
my old bike -- gives me more room in the cockpit.

I demo'd a small with an elongated stem today. More on that later.

Fun to ride, too.

Actually, at ths point, I'm pretty much set on getting the 15 (or XV, if
you prefer), which has XT components all-around anyway.

Do like I do and ride in a muu-muu so nobody can tell how much weight you
have in the back.

ROFL!

The bike shop owner asked me if I'd tried baggies. I said I had a pair
and they always caught on my seat. He said, "Weird -- that never
happens to me." I said, "Yeah, well, I think my butt's a lot bigger
than yours is."

He looked at me funny. I guess it was a little blunt.

Oops. Klein, not Trek. Too fast on the SEND button - duh! :-)
Still vaguely amusing though.
