That's a reason I like the Epic. It locks out for you and it actually works really well. You can stand and mash on climbs if you like and it knows what to do. Weird but cool. Yeah, definitely cool. -- monique |

I use my front lockout a lot. The rear doesn't need to (for me). Nice thing about the Maverick design, and why it climbs well. I'll post more in a bit. That seems weird -- I mean, you never hear of a bike that's a "hardnose," right? They either put the suspension in the back or on both. Sounds like what you're talking about creats a "hardnose." -- monique |

Eric warned me that what I thought was "light" could actually be "too much weight in the back" -- I want him to ride a model in his size today to see what he thinks about that point. Well that's true, I think. If you lift the *entire* bike and it feels rather light to you, then that's a good sign. Yeah ... after seeing the bike yesterday, Eric decided it wasn't a concern. (It would be surprising to me if a bike that gets such praise for its climbing were top-light.) If, however, you life a bike by its "midpoint" and find the front way lighter than the back, then that's a bit of a red flag. I'm a bit of a weight weenie, but don't mind heavier parts/components at the front. Hate trying to climb and having the front wheel flying all over the place on me. Indeed. I still haven't mastered the body position for really steep (to me) climbs, so I still do that a lot. Getting better, though. Bill "another reason to like Marzzochi" S. -- monique |

Maybe that's what we should call all those guys on rigid SSs. The rear end doesn't bob perceptably to me while climbing, but the front end does, especially when out of the saddle. Locking out the front end on my 2003 version fork (don't know if the 15 has one of those auto-locking sorts of forks like the Cake [?]) really makes climbing efficient, and I usually don't forget to unlock it anymore when the trail levels out :-) Shawn |

He loves it. The fork on the 15 does have a manual lockout, so I guess I can play with it. -- monique |
