Default Cycling has never been so popular

The hope is that safer streets will help to turn the cycling surge into a permanent cultural shift, says Matt Mallinder, director of influence and engagement at Cycling UK

Seeing as the biggest sustained opponent of protected cycling lanes
has been the Cycling Touring Club (recently rebranded as Cycling UK)
since the first was built this hope seems to be a bit unlikely to be
achieved.

Meanwhile Halfords celebrated the meteoric rise in cycling from wholly
irrelevant to largely irrelevant by announcing - "It is with a heavy
heart that we announce the closure of every Cycle Republic store. On
the 24th of April 2020, our doors will close for the final time."

"In its 2018/19 financial year, Cycle Republic made a loss of £4.3
million with another loss expected in its 2019/20 period."

The 4th (or is it the fifth, or 6th...) great pushbiking revival of
this year may well go the way of the others once it starts raining.
