Indeed, I'm sure the statistics for death while on a bus/death while
riding

a bike will surely justify your fears.

I've experienced many more close shaves per 100,000 miles during bus riding
than by bike riding and have been thrown from my bus seat at least three
times when fit and well. As I have no control over the bus, the bicycle
has proved itself to be the safer alternative for me, without the plastic
cap.

So you're saying that motorists are far more likely to hurt each other than
they are to hurt cyclists?

No that is not what I am saying!

My experience and awareness in road use is greater than the average bus driver. I know and do take evasive action at the earliest opportunity. Some may see it as instinct. It's not, it';s due to self-training to avoid the situations which may lead to conflict.
