Default Hit and run cyclist in court

A CYCLIST appeared in court yesterday charged with causing grievous
bodily harm to a child by wanton or furious cycling. The girl was on a
pedestrian crossing with an adult when she was knocked down and left
unconscious.

The cyclist came off his bike but then fled from the scene
and turned himself in after a Police appeal

Philip Douglas Benwell, 38, who spoke only to confirm his personal
details, is accused of causing a collision in Poole on Friday, July 25
this year, which caused the victim life-threatening injuries.

He also faced a separate charge of causing grievous bodily harm to the
juvenile – who can’t be identified due to a court order – during the
incident.

You really can't see the relevance to cycling in a report of a defendant
appearing in court charged with causing grievous bodily harm to a child
by wanton or furious cycling?

What do you call a cyclist in a suit?

Does someone who uses his car to hurt someone apply to you and to all
motorists? Does the actions of one motorist make you all guilty?

No, but the hit-and-run would still be related to driving and therefore on
topic in (for example) uk.rec.driving.

That question (and all the possible answers to it) are irrelevant.

Can you *really* not see the relevance to cycling in a report of a
defendant appearing in court charged with causing grievous bodily harm
to a child by wanton or furious cycling?

That's fairly shabby. Perhaps he lost concentration for a moment and
didn't intend any injury to others, but the only decent thing would
be to stop and assist with first aid, call an ambulance etc. To
ride away leaving a 9yr old child near to death is utterly despicable.

I would say the same if the injury had been caused by a driver.

It gives some indication to the seriousness of the offences because it is
not being dealt with by the Magistrates Court but will be going to the Crown
Court.

I can't see the relevance to a newsgroup that is dedicated to the
recreational sport of cycling. Accidents happen.
