should aero-bars be banned.
A world class marathoner, and tri-athelete Sally Meyerhoff was killed last week when she crossed a busy highway without stopping at a stop sign from a side road. You know you've seen it, head down, on the aerobars, like a rocket but without situational awareness. Should aerobars be banned from public roads? |

A lot of tired riders end up staring at their front tire (and only following the back tire of the person in front of them). If you are concerned about a lack of situational awareness while riding due to posture, get a recumbent: you will completely forget what your front tire even looks like. one possible choice- http://www.ransbikes.com/Xstream-N.htm |

I ride aerobars all the time and never have had a problem seeing stop signs. Even if the error was hers, it only resulted in her own death, hardly a hazard to others, I'm generally opposed to expansion of the nanny state. |

So without aerobars she would have been on the drops or hoods, head down, like a rocket but without situational awareness. Same mistake, same result. Should aerobars be banned from public roads? Questions: Did he need the cane *before* his perilous trip over the falls? (maybe not: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Bobby_Leach says he suffered two broken kneecaps and a broken jaw, spent 6 months in hospital recovering). Was there a way to close what looks like a hatch, or did he go over with his head sticking out (thus the broken jaw)? He was about 53 years old in 1911 when he made the trip, kinda old in those days. Well, he survived for a good while before he became permanently recumbent: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bobby_leach_2.JPG Hail the daredevil! --D-y |
