Then we could have discussions on the weight and aerodynamic consequences of a bell on the bike. It's obviously critical! OTOH, if such a requirement were made, there would be a whole new marketing opportunity. Get your streamlined, aero, titanium bells with carbon fiber thumb buttons right here! Ergonomically engineered so your thumb never has to leave its most aero position! On sale now, just $49.95! - Frank Krygowski |

Our last local bike fatality was a duplicate of that, except it was a rural highway and a bike trail crossing. I heard no mention of aero bars. All I heard was that the cyclist was a really nice guy who liked using the bike trail for high speed training, and often didn't slow or stop for the intersections. - Frank Krygowski |

Questions: Did he need the cane *before* his perilous trip over the falls? (maybe not: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Bobby_Leach says he suffered two broken kneecaps and a broken jaw, spent 6 months in hospital recovering). Was there a way to close what looks like a hatch, or did he go over with his head sticking out (thus the broken jaw)? He was about 53 years old in 1911 when he made the trip, kinda old in those days. Well, he survived for a good while before he became permanently recumbent: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bobby_leach_2.JPG Hail the daredevil! --D-y |

After all, getting off a perfectly functional bicycle to run is abominable, unless the terrain is too rough for cycling. Firing a rifle from a bike is tricky though. Try firing a rifle from a horse. Good point. But I don't remember seeing a horse back riding, swimming and sharpshooter event recently. |
