Add on mudflaps - any ideas ?
Dont know if anyone can advise - Ive got a Dawes Sardar (26" wheel
tourer) which I use for daily commuting - its got chromoplastic (SKS cheap copies) mudguards, however the front doesnt have a mudflap. Any ideas where I can get these as extras - mudguards are quite wide, as tyres are 1.5 width. |

Got mine from the CTC shop I think it was. http://www.ctcshop.com/dept.jsp?dept...ubdept_id=4070 They attach by a couple of wrap around arms but they kept slipping down so I drilled them and the mudguard and inserted a nut and bolt,no further problems. Any old bike shop should be able to sell you a mudflap. I glue mine on
with UHU after making sure all is clean and roughened up surfaces slightly with sandpaper. Or you can make one from half of a tonic water bottle. They work really well keeping feet dryer, legs mud free and bottom of bike much cleaner |

Any ideas where I can get these as extras - mudguards are quite wide, as tyres are 1.5 width. I made a front one from a PET (pop) bottle and a single rivet. It relies on being folded in behind the stays on both sides. If it comes out from these it flaps above 20mph http://delap.org/images/mudflap1.gif and http://delap.org/images/mudflap2.gif I have trimmed the sides further since the photos. Back flap is a plastic salad cream bottle. This is rigid enough to be solid with just a single rivet. Home made mudguards can be longer than most commercial ones. I simply take and old fender and cut of "X" number of inches and pop
rivet it on. Nuts and bolts have a habbit of working lose! Pat wrote: Any old bike shop should be able to sell you a mudflap.
