Default Speedbump complaint

I've sent this to my council.....

It has come to my attention that certain speedbumps in Clackmannanshire are excessively large (about twice as big as others), and are causing extensive damage to my car (and presumably every other road user), not to mention the harm caused to the elderly and disabled by having their spines severely jolted. I drove along Ashley Terrace (it and the surrounding roads have the huge bumps as opposed to the square ones like on Alloa Park Drive and Forth Crescent) at 20mph (the posted speed limit) and videoed it using a dashcam - http://youtu.be/4rTu0jVTCK8 . The result clearly shows excessive jolting of the car and you can hear banging noises (the suspension bottoming out, even though it's just had an MOT and 3 of the springs replaced along with other parts). Did anyone think to actually test these bumps with a normal vehicle? I followed a bus along there one day and the back end of it was missing the ground by 2 inches, despite the driver repeatedly slowing down to 10mph for every
bump, wasting fuel, making a noise to disturb the residents of the street, and jolting the elderly passengers about. On another occasion, a fire engine (with flashing blue lights) was seen to slow right down to make it over each bump. Slowing down an emergency vehicle is criminal negligence. I would like these bumps investigated and changed to the regular sized ones, and also a payment to cover my MOT bill (which was all suspension parts apart from the £40 MOT fee), which you can see he http://petersphotos.com/temp/MOT.jpg (from "The Garage", Lochies Road, Clackmannan). Speak to any mechanic and he'll tell you that the speed bumps are making them a fortune in replacing everyone's suspension.

Have you considered that if you had slowed down there would be less
"jolting" and less harm to you car?

Fine, if I should be going 10mph, then the speed limit should be 10mph.

And no it doesn't jolt it less by driving slower. In fact I've found the best speed for most bumps is DOUBLE the speed limit!

Guy,

Thanks for providing the YouTube video, it's most helpful. The bumps seem
well marked. You are not excedding the speed limit. The problem is that you
are not slowing down for these bumps. The bumps are there to make drivers
slow down in this residential neighborhood. Understand that the "speed
limit" is the maximum that you are allowed to go. It's possible to drive
slower than that when passing over these bumps. Sorry, no sympathy.

Good luck,
Dave M.

They are only excessively large if more than 100mm high.
