manhole hook
Today, I pulled off the lid to a street sewer. I just
used a long shaft with a small hook. It wasn't very difficult. But I thought about it and of course there must be some real gear to it. Here are some tools craft made in Sweden! The URL [1] looks goofy but it works. I think the "brunnskrok för gråjärnslock" would have worked in this case. (Literal translation "well hook for gray iron lid".) Apparently the tool name is "manhole hook" in English. Here are two other versions with more of an industrial polish. [2] And here [3], possibly the "professional" one as super expensive: 1499 SEK or ~($171, £135, or €154). Quote from the "Raiders of the Lost Ark" (1981) Indiana Jones move: Belloq: How odd that it should end this way for us, after so many stimulating encounters. I almost regret it. Where shall I find a new adversary so close to my own level? Jones: Try the local sewer.
