Default Opinion

Hey people, haven't been posting at all lately but have been lurking a bit.
A toddler and a pregnant wife keeps you busy. Anyway, I'm shopping for a
new bike and would like an opinion on the Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Pro
120 good or bad. I've just started looking around and that's the only bike
I've seen so far. Let me know.

Thanks,

Chris

Oh yeah, one thing that concerns me is that it isn't red so I'm thinking it
might be a bit slow. ;-)

That's ok. Slow is the new fast!

I like the FSRs, but I haven't checked out that particular one.
Sometimes they skimp on the cranks so you may need to address that
issue. The Strongarm IIs aren't terrible, but I'd rather have XTs. Does
that one come with the Fox Forx? I've heard good things about those.

Aren't you supposed to ask this question _after_ you buy the damn
thing?

On the basis of one demo ride, I don't especially understand the
sterling reputation of FSRs. The bike I tried (a few years ago) was the
FSR Enduro, so the spec was a little different. I thought it sucked. A
big, slow, ponderous pig of a bike. Couldn't climb for ****.

But then I still ride a hardtail, so consider the source.

It comes stock with a Manitou Minute fork, although I've heard of people
swapping it with a Fox Talas. I'm concerned with the rear shock though.
It's a Fox Septune (can't find anything on the Fox site about it).
Complaints I have heard is that it does not lock out, it has too many
settings (7). I haven't ridden yet but am heading down there in a few
minutes.

If you go with what the mags say you can't go wrong.

I have the 2004 model- the FSR pro 100 and I like it- enough that i
decided i don't ride enough off-road to have 2 mtn bikes (wife, 2 young
kids), and sold my hardtail. no regrets

it has the triad shock, and I play around with the 3 settings which is a
nice feature- i'm sort of glad i don't have to choose between more options.

I happen to like the STI style shifters- though I know some prefer the
older, trigger style.

I haven't read anything in years. It's all about the color.
Unfortunately it didn't come in red.

I save the post-purchase requests for gratification for my Wal-Mart bikes

Hey Chris, welcome back! How's the family? I have heard mixed reviews about
that bike, but I have no personal experience to add. I ride a Heckler and a
full rigid SS on the dirt. If you want info about them I can certainly
provide it. I know I wasn't much help, but just saying hello!
