The BBC seem to be playing down the fact that he is a PE teacher. Not
exactly unfit, but I guess with only two-three months you're not really
going to get an unfit person trained in time.

I think this will be rather telling. As a PE Teacher you'd expect the
guy to be reasonably fit, so just what will it take to get him in
shape from 6 miles a day to 120 miles in one day. He should have some
understanding of the training processes involved. Perhaps it will give
him a new perspective on what he teaches the kids at his school.

That'll be why they didn't pick me then.

He's already good for 120 miles. What will be difficult is getting him fit
to do it in a competitive time (with the chaps he's riding with/against,
not the TDF lot). What would be really impressive is getting him fit
enough to do similar times and distances on consecutive days. I'm in awe
of the real athletes.

Fitness wise most people can do 100 miles in a day.

What needs to be done is to learn how to do it efficiently and
comfortably. That takes practice ant some good advice. He might be
better off talking to the Audax lot than the racing contingent. Then
again, being able to do it comfortably and easily isn't really what
teh BBC want - they want struggle, determination, and making it look
hard and only possible for supermen. 'snot 'good tele' otherwise.
