Cycling basics at Lidl

The bicycle lift looks interesting.
The lights have their uses in that the front light is naff (drains batteries
very quicly) but the rear one is very bright & long-lasting.

Running belt could be useful for carrying drinks when on the 'bent.

The clothing is basic, but good value. Eminently washable.

The 'cycling top' looks to be the basic windproof front base layer and I
find these *excellent*

This is LIDL's annual bike day and is always on at this time of year. I have
found shirts, shorts and socks to be excellent value. (Beware sizing
though; there were problems last year in some of the shorts they sold which
were oversized.)
The only problem with LIDL in these "offers" is that you have to be there
before the shop opens to be at the front end of the queue since there has
always been ( in my area anyway) a mass of people rifling through the
"goodies" and the most popular lines disappear very quickly.

I remember last year, that, on the same day as clothing items appeared at
LIDL they also appeared on EBay for auction at inflated prices! Someone was
a bit sharp in more senses than one!

Indeed, for some of us, who have offspring with expensive tastes in
competitive cycling equipment, it's a good job we don't mind Lidl stuff and
welcome the cycling specials whe they appear (same for Aldi ones)!

I've seen staff at a local Lidl refuse to sell to a guy who had his basket
piled high with stuff - he tried to clean the place out almost - it was
obvious he was going to be flogging it on.

My favourites are the windproof front base layers (cycling tops) and the
short-sleeved jerseys. The shorts seem to vary in quality yearly, from good
to Lycra so thin they are only publicly decent if worn underneath a pair of
longs :-)

My rear light from 2 years ago went unreliable. The spring wire that
forms the battery contacts is held against a solder pad on the back
of the pcb, and this connection was poor. Reflowing the solder on
the pad to make a clean surface has made it work for now, but it's
not a great design : solder isn't a good contact material.

Probably worth the low cost if you expect to replace annually.

Finally, the lidl/aldi bicycle equipment season has begun. I might go
after the single clip-on pannier bags. The brief-case and touring panniers
from last year (Aldi or Lidl, I can't remember?) are good and represented
fantastic value but they use a strap system rather than a clip.

I might as well buy another pair of cycling gloves even though last year's
Aldi ones are still going strong.

My front Lidl light fell off (my fault, I mounted it improperly) so now I
have a Halfords front and Lidl rear. The Halfords front is less bright
and cost ten pounds on it's own. I wish I'd looked after my Lidl one. That
said, I didn't have it long enough to run into problems with battery life.

If its like last year's, its superb.
You need a strong set of roof joists to fix attach it to.

I bought two last year (and two more for a friend). They are fixed to planks
which rest across the beams in my garage roof. And thus two bikes winch up
out of harms way, and I can use it at medium height for minor maintenance
(oiling chain, wiping off crud, etc.).


The safe-man locks are useful for "outside shop/pub in low risk areas", so
rural East Anglia OK, but not what I'd use in a big city or at the train
station. I bought a couple last year.
