Default Can SA 7sp coaster brake be safely disabled?

I recalled seeing something about this but could not find it.

Can the coaster brake function on the Sturmey-Archer 7-speed hub be
safely disabled?
I am finding that it is darn inconvenient. (It's also redundant it's
also redundant as I have rim brakes as well.
