I'd have thought anyone who is aware of the dooring zone will tend to
avoid it, not much training needed there. But what does a broken
bridge have to do with it?

Nothing to do with cycling or cyclists.

X-posted to an appropriate NG for informed comment.

Good question.

And more likely to get a sensible answer in another NG.

Highly trained HGV driver hit a bridge - a cyclist with no training misses a car door illegally flung open.

Ergo, no specialist cycle training needed. QED.

Nothing to do with cycling or cyclists.

Cyclists never get stuck in traffic for hours anyway.

They would not be allowed past the Police lines, so IF they were on the
road in question they would have been just as stuck as everyone else.
As the road in question is a Motorway, any cyclists would have been
riding there illegally in any case.

They are allowed to play football though on the freeway.

Lovely cycling around there too. Virtually desert country lanes. Hills
up to about 150m climbs.

Yebut we know that most people who drive professionally are not the
sharpest tools in the box.
