I shudder to think that 1000 birds per year = "a few"

I hope you're ready to get rid of your glass windows. Because they
kill far far more birds than windmills ever will.

Our big window gets more than a few bird collisions each year. But so
far no deaths. We hear the big "thud" and find a dazed dove wandering
around the patio. After a few minutes it flies off.
Or it could be just one dumb dove who hits the window over and over.

I was walking into a two story mirrored glass building a couple years
ago, and something fell at my feet. I thought it was a leaf or pine
cone, but then saw it was a hummingbird.

It was out cold - I picked it up and - let me tell you - those things
are LITTLE. Kind of a scale model of a real bird/dragonfly hybrid.
Hard to imagine anything warm blooded that light.

Anyway, the little guy came to after 15 seconds, shook its little head
and flew off like only a hummingbird can.

Or Max in "Roswell". (What can I say, the chicks were hot.)

bees are getting WAY too big" S.
