The _Observer_ on "deadly" bike lanes
David Arditti typed
My experiences suggest to me that cycling uptake is a tremendously localised phenomenon (on a scale of 1-2 miles) Agreed and depends in a very detailed way on the quality of the environment (and not much on social factors such as race or class). There is *no* culture of Asian women cycling. Indians are the largest ethnic group and there's quite a high female preponderance hereabouts. It's difficult to change that culture though th Women's Design Service is making *tiny* inroads. -- Helen D. Vecht: Edgware. |
