Next month it'll be illegal in to look at google maps unless it is on a dash board mounted screen.

It's not clear how they'll enforce it. Glance down at your lap and you get pulled over? Paper maps are much more dangerous.

In a society that is always tweaking even the most marginal safety advantages it's surprising the freeways are still open to any lunatic.

In 10 years it is easy to imagine they'll only allow heavy vehicles and smart cars.

Relevance to the thread - and even the newsgroup:

No relevance at all.

Going back to the original article - so it's now illegal not to report a crime committed by someone else?

If you drive you really should know the law.

Highway code

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-highway-code/breakdowns-and-incidents-274-to-287
++++++
Rule 286
If you are involved in a collision which causes damage or injury to any
other person, vehicle, animal or property, you MUST

stop
give your own and the vehicle owner’s name and address, and the
registration number of the vehicle, to anyone having reasonable grounds
for requiring them
if you do not give your name and address at the time of the collision,
report it to the police as soon as reasonably practicable, and in any
case within 24 hours.

If the other person cause the accident, it's their problem. If they broke my car, I'll get their details so I can claim off them. There is no need for them to have my details, as the person at fault cannot claim off the person who is not at fault.

The doctor replies: "Give him the opportunity to speak while he's awake!"
