NSW RTA funding cut effects
OK, I was wrong. The RTA was actually going to do something besides construct hard to follow and poorly signposted cycle routes with its budget this year before it was drastically cut. The RTA has announced that the cycle route that winds up and down hills and across intersections between Eastwood and Meadowbank was going to be replaced with a cycleway up beside the railway line, but.that it has now been cancelled. It would been useful to both commuters to Macquarie Uni and North Ryde as well as recreational cyclists. Ah well back to ignoring the cycle route and riding down the side streets along the Western side of the railway tracks. I have often thought that building cyclesways along the railways would be a good idea in the area, since all the good routes along ridges are staked out by highways full of trucks and alternativesa are hard to find. Seems like the RTA had finally got around to thinking so too. Though the best would be from Eastwood to Hornsby, instead of having to circle around and up and down through Marsfield, Turramurra, and Wahronga, though that would not be possible since the railway accomplishes it with high embankments and narrow cuttings. dewatf. |
