Shimano seems to have at least one customer waiting.

You're right. I've changed my mind. We need ABS on all bikes -- immediately.

BTW, classic high-side crash. He slides the rear wheel, locks up the front and goes OTB -- luckily not fracturing his collar bone. And with a shock fork, to boot. And before the disc hysterics chime in, that's totally do-able on a rim brake bike, but not on a coaster brake. Coaster brakes for all!

Coaster brakes are really just drum brakes, the hub is the brake drum. A
lot of benefits to drum brakes that you don't get with disc brakes.

Won't let me read the article unless I disable my ad blocker = no way I'm doing that just to read an article.

Cheers

Nope won't let me watch it on the site. So, I saved the coplete web page and took out the file from t hat and watched it.

It looks like his front wheel locked up. After the flip I saw a small white object on the road where he flipped.

Cheers

Watching the video, the brakes had nothing to do with the flip. He would have made the same flip on a coaster rear brake only bike with no front brake at all. He stopped his forward momentum and flipped because he turned his wheel sideways. The rubber tire going sideways on the pavement stopped him and caused him to flip over. Turn a wheel sideways and you will flip every time. No brakes needed.

For the person yipping and yapping about not being able to watch the video and scared to turn his ad blocker off, you must have a F-ed up internet connection on your computer. Video played just fine for me. You should visit one of those computer stores that fixes your computer.

Maybe.

As I recall, Sir writes from Canada, where dailymail.co.uk
may have different terms of service than in USA.

In Ireland I had the same experience from that link, quite common actually, of a demand that I accept their advertising on my computer (which basically means to let them root around to harvest your email addresses and your address books and your bookmarks) which I simply rejected. If the clip or information is so essential to Rideablot's wellbeing, he should get a VPN and an in-browser ad-blocker and learn how to use them. -- AJ

There are drum brakes and drum brakes, though. Shimano's roller brakes are a manner of drum brake and they're as efficient as a disc and less liable to wear and damage. But they require service, which defeats the advantage of an enclosed brake.
