It's not just cyclists who get abuse hurled at them
There were major hold-ups today due to temporary lights on a busy junction
with a 3-way phase. I got chatting to one of the workmen while waiting for the lights to change. As we were chatting, this ahem lady shouted something out of the window. I did not understand what she said but the workman translated it into something along the lines of, complaining about no one working on the big hole in the road but holding up the traffic (as if it were his fault). A few cars later, a man shouted abuse at the workman too. And I thought it was just cyclists that car drivers hurl abuse at. It made me laugh, and it made me feel a lot better. The workman said it happens all day every day, and you get used to it. Bizarre! |

When I was a trade plate driver standing at the side of the road rtying to cadge a lift I got abuse, likewise when simply walking along a footpath some yob felt he had the right to shout abuse at me and another yob thought he had the right to shout abuse and make obscene gestures at me when I was taking photographs of a building. |

Was any of this actually anything to do with your being a trade plate driver? |

How many people did you kill or injure (apart from yourself) when you drove a car Doug? |

A few cars later, a man shouted abuse at the workman too. You get lots of abuse on roadworks. I've been sworn at too often to remember, and once had a very angry driver get out and start ranting in my face so close I got the spittle in my eyes. On that occasion a couple of very large labourers ambled up and stood just behind me, at which point he calmed down, for some reason. You also get people driving through the cones if they think they will get away with it. I've had people get out, move 6' high panels of heras fence and 'road closed' signs to drive into a site. On that particular occasion we had physically removed the bridge nearly a mile up the road, but then it was apparently our fault they had to turn round and go back to the diversion. I've had people on my sites injured by stuff thrown at them from moving cars (half a can of coke, for example, thrown from a car doing 70mph plus, produces a serious impact). regards, Ian SMith -- |\ /| no .sig |o o| |/ \| |

mileburner twisted the electrons to say:
And I thought it was just cyclists that car drivers hurl abuse at. It made me laugh, and it made me feel a lot better. The workman said it happens all day every day, and you get used to it. Bizarre! Conversely I had an unexpected shouting experience the other day. I was cranking my way up a hill, when I realised there was a car slowly overtaking me. Being slightly concerned about this I quickly glanced to see what was going on, and was even more concerned when I saw it appeared to be full of young males with the windows open ... I was more than a little surprised when they shouted encouragement at me! -- These opinions might not even be mine ... Let alone connected with my employer ... |
