Default Riis: 'Ullrich's form is catastrophic'

http://www.procycling.com/news.aspx?ID=2057

"Speaking to Danish daily BT, CSC team manager Riis described
Ullrich's state of form as "absolutely catastrophic" based on
observations made when the T-Mobile team leader crossed paths with CSC
leader Ivan Basso during a recent training camp in Tuscany."

"It's clear that he doesn't like riding his bike, and for that
reason I don't understand why he wants to be a cyclist, it's a
waste of his talent," Riis stated. "He needs to wise up right away.
My belief in him is dwindling."

Way to get in your opponent's head, Bjarne!

and......Riis also commented that "Bassso is in good form"...."DUH"
If Ullrich was so negative about riding the bike, T-Mobile would have
booted his butt before investing all this money in him up until now.
The team is straped for cash as it is and wouldn't waste it on a member
who was not in it for the team.

I've read several times that Ulrich is a huge star in Germany regardless of
his form. An article in CycleSport over the winter talked about how he has
huge marketing appeal for TM (the company, not the team). In other words, he
doesn't have to win... he just has to show up and get his picture taken.

It's probably a bit to early to judge at this point. But figure at
least on month at a min to return to his original form. Like I said
before this means no Giro.... So Jan will probably race the Tour of
Romandy possibly and the Dauphine Libre. He might also race the Tour of
Switzerland as well. The real question how fast can Jan get back into
shape...??

Isn't that the same sort of thing everyone has said about Ull'rich
every single year when everyone but Lance finished behind him?

You're absolutely right. Who the hell is Riis anyway ? He doesn't know

Mind you, the Tour is designed to give Jan the advantage but it would
appear that Basso is just too good now.

Let's watch the Giro......
