Denmark's Bjarne Riis, who won the 1996 Tour de France with the
Telekom team, will hold a news conference in Copenhagen tomorrow,
Deutsche Presse-Agentur reported. Brian Nygaard, a spokesman for the
CSC team that Riis now manages, didn't immediately answer a phone
message seeking comment

That could get interesting.

Actually, I think Riis is in a perfect position to come clean and keep
the momentum/omerta breaking going. He owns the joint. He cant get
fired. CSC can pull sponsorship, but Riis owns the team.

So soon after the holier-than-thou routine with Basso? Aren't actions
like that the primary cause of spontaneous human combustion?

Riis is mostlikely making a "statement" due to the events surrounding
Basso. Ivan probably cut a deal with the Italian panel in an effort
to get a a 2-year suspension reduced to 1. In return, he had to
implicate someone. Riis is a perfect target.

Nobody believes Riis did not know something was going on, and the
authorities need to get a DS on record versus riders and doctors.

Basso says, "Riis, I missed last year's Tour, and now this
year's...I'm not getting any younger and I want to ride next year's
Tour. But I had to offer some 'evidence' in return for some
leniency. You know how it goes. So, I'm telling you this so you can
decide whether you want your involvement to come out via the an
uncontrolled media/WADA orgy, or you can hold a press conference, cry
a little and humble yourself to your supporters".

In other words, you can control the spin, or let others. I simply
bought you some time to get your spin together.

Thus, Riis goes public as a pre-emptive move.

Basso's such a nice guy

I always thought Riis was the kingpin of doping. Look what he did to Tyler.
His approach is always the same, he always says to the new recruited star,
Basso probably say the same act,

"Do you want to be pack-fill?" and he places a cliff bar on the table,

or

"Do you want to be a champion?" and that's when he puts the black medicine
bag on the table.

Prior association with the Russian or Dutch Mafia probably increases
the odds in nature.

Dear Mr. Russell,

Mafia is a registered trademark of the Italian Federation of
Amalgamated Vending Machine Purveyors. The term is not to be used in
conjunction with any other brand, nationality or insult. Cease and
desist. Or, if you prefer, your decease and desist will be arranged
for you.

Sincerely,

Luigi "Big Balls" Tucci, Esq.
