NEW YORK - A former teammate of Lance Armstrong has told broadcaster CBS'
"60 Minutes" that he used performance-enhancing drugs with the seven-time
Tour de France winner to cheat in cycling races, including the tour.

Tyler Hamilton says Armstrong took a blood-booster called EPO in the 1999
Tour and before the race in 2000 and 2001. Armstrong won the race every year
from 1999-2005.

The interview with Hamilton was broadcast on the "CBS Evening News" on
Thursday.

And letter http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/cyclin...ory?id=6567822

"This is the second time in two years that a blockbuster story will have
broken in the middle of the Tour of California, the premier stage race in
the United States.
A year ago, Floyd Landis' doping confession and allegations that Armstrong
and other riders and cycling officials had been part of organized doping at
the U.S. Postal Service teams of a decade ago blew up when his detailed
emails leaked. Landis first confirmed and elaborated on the accusations in a
lengthy interview with ESPN.com."

Maybe now Anton will take the Tour of California more seriously!

The press conferences and interviews at the Bike Ride in California
document the human drama of athletic competition.

PS : It looks worse than ever though that Amgen sponsors the bike
ride.

Mike - flipped yet ? If not now when?

Everyone here knows that LA and the whole Postal team doped. Anyone
who was top 20 on GC in the GT's doped, I suspect that most still do
so today. Last year we had the penniless Landis bleat out his
confession and accusations during the ToC, this year, it's the
penniless Hamilton. What both described is likely to be a generally
accurate description of what went on.

And both are equally of little value, if the goal is to actually get
LA sanctioned or convicted of anything. Did either describe the exact
money flow that allowed a large team to pay for a continual, expensive
drug program? Were any details they provided verified with hard
evidence that linked the money to drugs? What about suppliers? Where
did the drugs come from, exactly? Where are the transaction records?
Surely, for a program of such magnitude, those records exist, as we've
seen them in other drug cases. What about doctors medical records?
With a program so extensive, somebody had to be keeping track of what
each rider was taking, how much, when, blood tests, costs, supplies,
etc.

My guess is that team LA has seen this ill wind coming for years and
has systematically destroyed as much hard evidence as they can,
possibly, all of it. A few scraps that have been left behind (e.g.
eBay bike sales? give me a break) aren't compelling. We're just left
with a large set of conflicting and supporting eye witness accounts,
from a bunch of guys who lied their asses off to the public in the
past about their drug use. IMO, they'd be ripped to pieces in court,
based on how such testimony has been viewed in past cases against LA.

Lastly, let's all be honest. Had LA not doped, every single person
here, especially the biggest LA haters, knows he'd have gotten his ass
kicked in every TdF. You'd all be at the head of the pack calling him
a loser and a douchebag, and pointing out what an idiot he was for not
doping, and that he never had the talent to compete in the first
place. Any pro rider during that period (and likely, up to today)
knows that doping was they only way to compete, and the alteratives
were to either be pack fodder or get out of the sport. Convicting LA
won't change that reality.

Flipped from what? I've been pretty consistent all along. Observing the
process, looking at motivations, discussing credibility issues. Nothing
to flip, just fascinating to watch.

I took the easy way out and skipped to the end. The
Onion assumes the mantle of high-minded morality and
wit speaking to the elite who are intelligent enough to
see through pretense. In fact they are tendentious
purveyors of claptrap singing lullabies to the cheap seats.
