Hi

I was looking at completing a bike ride in November from Roselands to
Grenfell a country town. The journey according to whereis.com.au is 357.91
km. I was looking to complete it in 3 / 4 days, stopping at caravan parks
and pitching a tent each night.

Seriously, just take the train to Lithgow and go from there. That will
neatly avoid your two biggest problems, traffic and crossing the great
dividing range. My 2c is that if you have to ask about it,then you don't
tour. Your major problem will be the muscle in your bum. If you plan it
carefully, then you should be able to pub/hotel/motel each night thus
saving the weight of tent, sleeping bag, cooking gear, etc.

Does anyone have any suggetions / tips? Whats the longest bike ride you've
been on?

350km in 4 days is not a huge ride. It's under 100km a day, which
pretty-much anyone with a few miles in their legs can do if they pace
themselves
and stop for rests. I'd assume you'd take a touring bike with
panniers if you wanted to carry a tent, but otherwise you could
lighten your load by staying at hotels along the way - they can be
pretty cheap.

Your last question, longest rides? A friend of mine has done 550km
in 24 hours (Murray to Moyne), I've done 300-odd in one race in
about 10 hours.

On the website that shows records for HPVs, one is for the "megametre", in
other words, 1000km. The record is 23 hours, 17 minutes. Works out at an
average of just over 42kph. That's a bit scary for a solo effort.

Greetings,
Depends what you class as long. Some years ago I used to do the Double
Century ride, 320 km (200 miles) in one weekend, which was pretty tough
stuff. Back in the early 80s, I did trips in NZ and Tassie that totalled
1600 kms over three weeks. That's what I call touring. Plotting a trip
for later this month, but even if my wife would let me go, I don't think
I'm up to tours on that scale these days.
Regards,
Ray.

We did 1500km Darwin Kakadu Nitmiluk Darwin one Christmas. We took it
slowly, only 50-60km most days. We camped, so had to carry a tent but didn't
need sleeping bags. We stopped at tourist parks most nights, so rarely had
to carry more than a food for a day or two, and water was plentiful too.
