A Simple Quiz on London Casualties in 2010
Which mode of transport had the smallest percentage reduction in fatalities? Correct - cycling at 23% (cf pedestrian at 34%) Which mode of transport was the only one to have an increase in serious injuries? Correct - cycling went up 9% - when all other modes went down Which mode of transport was the only one to have an increase in KSI figures during the year? Correct - cycling up by 8% - when all other modes went down Which mode of transport had the greatest increase of all severities of injuries over the year? Correct - cyclists had a 9% increase. How many pedestrian and cycling casualties were there in Greater London during 2010? Pedestrian : 5391 Cyclists : 4007. Do you think that there are only 25% more pedestrians than there are cyclists in Greater London? No - there are many, many more pedestrians than there are cyclists in Greater London. With many thanks to Simple Simon for the pointer. http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloa...ondon-2010.pdf -- Simon Mason - who cycles at 25mph in 20mph limits just because the limits do not apply to cyclists. This includes exceeding the speed limit past three schools. A total disregard for the well-being of vulnerable road users. The actions of a true psycholist. |

Peds tend to stay safe on the pavement. Why do you think the two figures are comparable. Totally meaningless without some comparison of the overall number of cyclists or cyclist miles travelled in the two periods being compared. Now, be a dear and FOAD. MBQ |

"According to TfL's figures the number of daily cycle trips on its road network has risen by 150 per cent since 2000, (in 2010 there was a 15 per cent year on year rise in cycle trips), while the number of deaths per cycling trip has dropped by 60 per cent over the corresponding period. The figures would seem to back up the central idea of the CTC's Safety in Numbers campaign, namely that the more cyclists there are on the roads the safer cycling becomes." -- Simon Mason |

In total, there were 3,909 cyclists injured in the twelve months ending September 2010, 10.9 per cent more than the previous twelve months. Now let's see you produce the figures which show that cycling increased by 10% over the year. Now let's see you produce the figures which show that cycling increased by 10% over the year. Here you a 15% from the very report.(but they could have lied) Pedal cyclists killed or seriously injured were 18% below the 1994-1998 average, with an 8% increase in the 12 months ending December 2010. This overall increase should be seen in the context of the considerable increase in cycling over a number of years, resulting from encouragement of cycling in London as a sustainable mode of travel. Cycling on London’s major roads, the Transport for London Road Network (TLRN), increased by150% between 2000 and 2010, and 15% during 2010 alone. Fred |

Much like the statistic that shows males have more accidents, but fails to recognise that there are more of them driving about. |
