Super Lantern Rouge!
Iker Flores has been lantern rouge for 6 stages! This takes some superior
cycling skills to manage your effort to be slow enough to be last but fast enough to beat the cutoff. Iker is the man! It was he who saved Dave Zabriskie from the humiliation of falling all the way from MJ to LR (Stage 8). Iker beat Dave that day, but Iker managed his pace so that he would still take the LR honors. Here's Iker in action: http://www.cyclingnews.com/photos/20...4/cycling-fra- languedoc-60.jpg Lantern Rouge finishes for Iker Flores: Stage No -Place- Name and Team - Time Behind GC Leader Stage 11 167 Iker Flores (Spa) Euskaltel-Euskadi 2.18.30 Stage 10 173 Iker Flores (Spa) Euskaltel-Euskadi 1.48.30 Stage 9 175 Iker Flores (Spa) Euskaltel-Euskadi 1.12.25 Stage 8 180 Iker Flores (Spa) Euskaltel-Euskadi 1.01.54 Stage 5 189 Iker Flores (Spa) Euskaltel-Euskadi 9.31 Stage 4 189 Iker Flores (Spa) Euskaltel-Euskadi 12.26 Go Iker! |

You know, he was Lanterne Rouge in Paris in 2002. If he continues this performance, he will match Jimmy Casper's two wins (2001 and 2004), and with the same number of years between them. |

Did you notice on tuesday, that when the first riders started to drop from the pack, he looked back, worriedly, and slowed down. He's doing it on purpose. MJ; -- ..signature necesse est |

Not an easy task, that's for sure.
He's always playing with elimination time, he loves finishing just seconds away from from bening eliminate it. :-) "PanFan" wrote in message ... Iker Flores has been lantern rouge for 6 stages! Lanterne Rouge update / Stage 13
Iker Flores has worn the "red jersey" for 8 stages. As of Stage 13, Iker has a comfortable "lead" of 6m 19s over 2nd to last place rider Johan Vansummeren of Davitamon-Lotto. Stage No -Place- Name and Team - Time Behind GC Leader Stage 13 161 Iker Flores (Spa) Euskaltel-Euskadi 2.18.53 Stage 12 162 Iker Flores (Spa) Euskaltel-Euskadi 2.18.30 Stage 11 167 Iker Flores (Spa) Euskaltel-Euskadi 2.18.30 Stage 10 173 Iker Flores (Spa) Euskaltel-Euskadi 1.48.30 Stage 9 175 Iker Flores (Spa) Euskaltel-Euskadi 1.12.25 Stage 8 180 Iker Flores (Spa) Euskaltel-Euskadi 1.01.54 Stage 5 189 Iker Flores (Spa) Euskaltel-Euskadi 9.31 Stage 4 189 Iker Flores (Spa) Euskaltel-Euskadi 12.26 p.s. -- I'm jealous. I think it would be fun as hell to be L.R., I'd smile the whole way. |

That has to be approaching some kind of record. -eric |

Flores hasn't lost the red jersey since -- he maintained the 6:19
"lead" over Van Summeren in stage 14. In stage 15 there was some excitement as a bold move by Wim Vansevenant, also of Davitamon-Lotto, passed Van Summeren, although Flores kept the jersey with a "lead" of 7m 26s. In stage 16 Van Summeren stayed on the attack, closing to within 6m 11s of Flores. This situation lasted until today's stage (19) , in which Flores put another 1m 20s into (took it out of?) Van Summeren. I guess the time trial tomorrow will really be the last chance for either of the Davitamon-Lotto contenders to seriously challenge Flores. Of course, I'm not sure I could finish any one of these stages, and I know all three of these guys are outstanding athletes -- fun to keep track of anyway. |
