Default Out With the Old; In With the New

Jan 1 or at least before my first bike commute of the new year,
I always replace the batteries in my two winter bike cycle
computers. I also replace the 2A/3A batteries in my secondary
headlights and tail lights. They will work all through the next
year. The two road bikes are in hibernation in my cellar, but
will get the same treatment come March or April.

I replace the AA/AAA batteries with alkyline versions having
found that the rechargables aren't always guaranteed to provide
enough power, particularly for a headlight, when you need it
several months from January. I use rechargables now for most
all my battery needs. But not for the bike lights.

Not certain how long a cycle computer battery, or even a head or
tail light will last. They seem strong enough at the time of
replacement, but I feel this is the time to replace the old stuff
and bring in the new for the coming year.

Seems to have worked well for me over the years. Anyone else
have a New Year's "procedure" for their bikes?
