I dunno...I'd classify this type of behavior more as vandalism than
trolling. Vandals don't generally care about eliciting a response; they
simply do as much damage as possible. Trolls, on the other hand, are
generally seeking a reaction.

It's the difference between yelling racial epithets while standing at a
busy street corner and remotely detonating a stink bomb in a
restaurant. Both are offensive, but one seeks confrontation while the
other avoids it.

I agree Dan. Ed Dolan wants us to believe that he is not a troll and
points to this juvenile behavior as that which this is indicative of a
troll whereas it is more akin to vandalisem, but your analogy doesn't
quite make the point clear. It is more like the difference between
getting in a guy's face and calling him a pussy and surreptitiously
spray painting that same message on his garrgage door in the middle of
the night.

Jim McNamara

ALL trolls are criminal vandals. Anyone who thinks otherwise should get his
head examined. Observe the present troll carefully to get an example of
what I have forever been talking about. Maybe even Jim McNamara will finally
learn what a troll is.

I recognize a troll when I encounter one. As you yourself said, I am
an expert in this respect. You fail to recognize that you fit the
definition. You are in denial, but as I said before, I'll not debate
the issue any further with you. The readership has already cast their
ballots in this regard. The votes have been tallied and the
overwhelming conclusion is that you are a troll ... end of discussion.

They are one and the same. That is why I call trolls "criminal vandal
trolls." If you are not vandalizing a newsgroup, then you are NOT a troll.

Errant opinion stated as fact. Nothing novel about that.

Ed Gin and his Monkey Island scumbags are criminal vandal trolls because
they do nothing but destroy a group.

But I can spot such scumbags from a mile off and I do not bother reading
their tripe let alone responding to it.

Oh, but you have so why try to deny it???

Only Tom Sherman seems to enjoy
their shenanigans. He thinks it adds fun and exceitment to the group. What
do you think?

I think the person or person responsible are childish, cowardly, have a
lot of growing up to do, have too much time on their hands, need to get
a life and are, well ... losers. They have accomplished nothing other
than to garner the disdain of the readership. That's what I think.

Yea, there's not a lot here worth reading many days. Bentrider Online is
where it's mostly at.

I second that motion. The editor over at that site does a nice job of
keep the trolls out.

If you like "now kiddies, things are getting out of hand reminders"
[1], moderation is fine.

Besides, the OCCASIONAL, knock-down, drag-out, flame-fest is good fun.

[1] Not an actual quote, but true in spirit.

Now see I don't mind an occasional ot rant or whatever. BUT..... E.D.
and some others seem to have long records of the mind numbingly boring
rants that seem to go on and on and on.

Yes, there is no need to turn every thread of more than a few messages
into a flame fest.

I think rec.bicycles.tech has a good balance between serious on-topic
discussion, banter, and off-topic flame wars. Prior to November 2000,
the same could be said for alt.rec.bicycles.recumbent.

I seriously doubt if RBT was ever polluted by a bunch of liberal asshole nut
cases (all one word) like ARBR was. Note, I said WAS, but that was back
then. Those days are long gone now. I have seen to that.

Nope, I am not even reading those troll posts. I will only respond if and
when I detect others are getting involved in it. However, I will not involve
myself if you involve yourself since doing battle with trolls is your stick,
not mine.

But I will stand by to take on Tom Sherman if he involves himself in those
troll threads. There is no free ride for him on this newsgroup. But he has
enough sense to know when to absent himself from a thread. I hope you do
too.

So then you, responded numerous times to the "troll posts" without even
reading what you were responding to ... the conundrum continues!!!.
Sometimes doing battle with a troll is my stick and that is precisely
why I engaged you in cyber-skirmishes. From this, you can conclude that
you are indeed a troll. Thanks for the clarification in that regard.

Neither Tom nor I need your advice. We don't take advice from lesser
beings and a troll is a lesser being..
