Default Letter in the Cambridge Evening News

After a bout of the predictable cyclist bashing in the Cambridge Evening
News (including a news article about some numpty who fell off his
motorbike near someone walking with a bicycle and used it as an excuse
to call for cyclists to be registered and insured), one of my multiple
letters of the past few days has been published in response to another
numpty's ideas.

(although their website seem borked at the moment)

Dear Sir

Mr Jordon (Real Dangers, Letters, Monday 30 Oct) suggests that cyclists
should be forced to use the cycle lanes that the Council has built for
them or face a fine. Perhaps to that should be added fines for not
using the Park and Ride that has been built and run, at great expense,
by the Council for motorists.

"What's that" I hear him say, "that's not practical or convenient"?
Exactly. The cycle lanes across the City have by and large been
designed by non-cyclists without a clue about the needs of cyclists.
Many are next to useless in addition to which they are significantly
more dangerous for cyclists than the roads.

So perhaps if Mr Jordan doesn't mind, I will continue to cycle on the
roads while reminding him that at least I am not one more car in the
queue in front of him racing to beat him to that elusive parking space.

Love it. I must remember that argument.

Yup. (Thinks of the under-used Long Ashton Park'n'Ride.)

Very neat. Make one point, clearly and wittily. Newspaper (editors...) will simply
NOT print long reasoned essays - unless you're one of their columnists.

You may have misspelt "Too bad, road pricing is coming anyway"....
