There is no right to own a gun in the Constitution. The Second Amendment simply prohibits the federal government from infringing on the right to keep and bear arms for use in a well-regulated state militia. Nothing in the Constitution prohibited the states from taking away your gun, cutting off your testicles or doing basically anything it wanted.

The only reasons the states can't rip your gun out of your cold dead hands is because of the Fourteenth Amendment and the conclusion by some farting old white judges that gun ownership is a "fundamental right." The word "gun" or "arms" does not appear in the Fourteenth Amendment. Activist judges! AOC is right and a leading olde-tyme conservative strict constructionist!

I'll write to the Texas GOP and tell them to find someone with a deep tan or a bottle of walnut oil to run in the next election so Chalo can have someone to vote for. Or maybe they can recruit Justin Trudeau, who does good blackface already and has recently grown a Ted Cruz-style beard, so he'll be right familiar to Texas voters, and he's a certified (= useless) lefty, and Mark Steyn has excoriated him for years -- sounds like just the male version of AOC that Texas needs. Oh, I forgot: Trudeau has a tendency to dress up in regional costumes, so he'll be right at home from day one in his gingham dress.

She's not my cup of tea, but when it comes to the Second Amendment, one can make a strong textual and historical argument that it did not guarantee access to guns for private purposes. Lots of apolitical scholars have said as much. It's not crazy to question the NRA view of the Amendment. It is not a thin veneer of sophistry -- or even a riddle wrapped up an enigma inside a sesame seed bun.
