He died from a broken neck so presumably a helmet would not have
helped.

"9 Sep 2010

A drink-driver was three times the legal limit when he killed a
cyclist, who was flung through the windscreen of his vehicle and on to
a passenger.

Senior software consultant Konstantinos Tourlas died after suffering a
broken neck when speeding motorist Andrzej Stankiewicz struck him head
on after crossing on to the wrong side of the road.

Polish national Stankiewicz, 42, pleaded guilty to causing the death
of the cyclist on June 12 this year by driving without due care and
attention and when unfit through drink, when he appeared at the High
Court in Edinburgh.

The motorist admitted driving at excessive speed, swerving about the
road, failing to negotiate a bend and crossing on to the opposite
carriageway into the path of Dr Tourlas, 38, who was out on a weekend
cycle with his girlfriend.

The couple were heading on the B9080 road towards Winchburgh, in West
Lothian, when the fatal incident occurred. Stankiewicz, of Winchburgh,
was breath tested and gave an alcohol reading of 104 microgrammes per
100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

The judge, Lord Bannatyne, deferred sentence on Stankiewicz for the
preparation of background reports. He was remanded in custody and
faces imprisonment for the offence, which carries a maximum penalty of
14 years."

I keep telling you that cycling is dangerous.

2008 DfT Figures: Passenger casualty rates Per billion passenger kilometers:
Killed or seriously injured: Pedal Cyclists : 541 Pedestrians 382
All casualties: Pedal Cyclists : 3814 Pedestrians : 1666
(Pedal cyclist casualties up 9% - pedestrians up 2%: Cycling is becoming more dangerous each year when compared to walking as a means of transport)

This was obviously dangerous driving. We know that because someone
was killed.

I think that you should petition the government to make a law against
such a thing.

Dave - intelligent enough to realise that a push bike, like a skateboard, is
a kid's toy, not a viable form of transport.

There were several thousand flights in the USA on 11/9/01, and only 4
were hijacked. Why all the palaver?

Can you give a recent example of this happening in the UK. Or is your
question purely hypothetical?
