The Burgmeister/Maire of Geraardsbergen/Grammont just banned the
throwing away of waterbottles and other cycling refuse on the
Kappelmur

Since it's a pretty tough 700 meters, he probably doesn't have much to
worry about

I have to admit, our mayor is not my best friend, but i do understand
this action. Every year, after the recreational Tour of Flanders on
Saturday, there is an incredible amount of garbage spread over the
Kapelmuur. You can hardly take a seat in the grass without an empty
can of Red Bull being pushed up your ass.

If you don't know the route from the Muur to the Bosberg, just follow
the trace of garbage during the descent.

I posted that in my typical "tongue in cheek" mode and didn't realize that
there was a problem, meaning it to be taken as most of my posts in
here are, with several grains of salt.

Sorry about that, but the few times I have ridden up the Kappelmuur, I
was far too occupied to jettison anything

It seemed to me to be - I dunno really - either a pr stunt for the
race or a bell ringer for the Burgmeister

Here is as good as I could find on the route

http://www.rvv.be/2006/eng/parcours/wegwijzer.html

And as good as I have available on the starters

http://www.cyclingstartlists.com/

And since my man Vasseur is currently slated not to start, I will be
rooting for VDB (dare I predict a podium spot since he already, I
believe, had two second places?)

That sounds unpleasant--at least, from my perspective. YMMV.

Speaking of Red Bull,

"Since clubbers who consume Red Bull and vodka don't necessarily feel
the effects of their drinking, they may guzzle down more than they
should, according to Formigoni. She also noted that a sweeter taste
might allow people to drink the combination of alcohol and Red Bull
faster than other drinks."

Is that effect supposed to be a good thing or a bad thing? Also, where
can I sign up as a test subject for any attempts to reproduce this study?

Sick, possibly delirious, adding Red Bull to the grocery list.

Livedrunk,

The year I did it the Red Bull handups were at the top, and
I don't recall a lot of detritus on the way up. But like
Davey, I wasn't paying a lot of attention.

the first (and last) time I tried Vodka Redbull was the after party at
Baltimore cross nats. It was like all they were serving at the bar and
Lynn B. slapped her card on the bar and opened a tab and people got
****faced. the redbull keeps you wired until the point of collapse
from alcohol. Ugly. IIRC, Lyle Fulkerson carried Lynn back to the
hotel over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes, and she wasnt the only
one. It was like the Battan Death March.

That stuff is dangerous.

Good times...

I'll remember not to sit down on the Muur tomorrow. Doing the full
260km too, which is probably going to hurt even more than a Red Bull
enema.
