A thought regarding the TTT
Since it is team based, is it a ploy to leverage higher quality/greater
participation in the road race? |

A thought regarding the TTT
Teams will choose riders for the TTT, countries will continue to
choose riders for the other events. Some riders will bail from one to save themselves for the other. (just like they do now with the tt/rr) Lots of weaker teams despise the ttt and would not attend. Somewhere someone was wondering how teams would be selected. Why not have 3 categories for the 3 levels of pro teams. Pro tour Contennential Regional. Take all teams that choose to attend and can field a team large enough and can afford the travel & entry fees. Telling a host town that 100s of extra riders might show up to boost their local economies would be a plus. You want a real bonus? The last place pro tour team exchanges their pro tour team license with the first place conti team for the following season. Of course pro tour team attendance would need to be mandatory. More interesting (especially to the USA) would be a country based TTT. |

But the quality of field is also a factor of the limit of riders from each country. Surely the major cycling nations would rule if they could send 50 riders each instead of the max of 10. Field quality is also due to the lateness of the race during the season. So many riders are done racing. Run worlds between the tdf & the vuelta. Kinda like they squeeze most pro natz in between the Giro & the tdf. |
