Here is something for Ed - remarkable for being from 1952, and one soon
adjusts to the use of vibrato by the singers:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Fb3ffDZ-TY.

Criminal that it has less
than 260 views in over two months, while the latest pop schlock get
hundreds of thousands of views in the same time-frame.

The reason it has so few views is because it is antique music. Bach more and
more recedes into the mists of history. Soon it will be played only in
museums devoted to antiquities.[...]

Nonsense. Everyone loves J.S. Bach except cretins and those with
undeveloped or improperly developed minds.

And now for something completely different: A slow-motion video of a
young lady [1] frolicking:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1vpB6h3ek4&feature=player_embedded.

[1] Presumably, since cats with calico coats are almost invaribly female.

I fear even the standard repertoire of every orchestra in the land is
becoming increasingly irrelevant. Ever notice how the audience seems to be
made up of exclusively older folks like myself. Where are the young people?

Yes, a very cute video. Man domesticated the cat so he could pet the tiger.

I have loved every cat I have ever had, even some who did not love me back.
A male cat of mine recently died. It was always healthy, but suddenly
developed a sneeze and a cough and died within a couple of weeks. It was not
contagious since all of my other cats remain healthy. Very sad ...

They either have not been exposed to good music, or have been
indoctrinated by our anti-intellectual culture to hate anything but
lowest common denominator schlock.

How could any person with developed intellect not love this, especially
the concluding Alleluia fugue for soprano and trumpet?

Man domesticating the cat is a myth. Rather, the cat domesticated man.

Why classical music is in decline is open to question, but the fact remains
that it is. Andre Jute, a former music critic now living in Ireland, could
probably tell us why.

It is church music. Our culture is now almost totally secular. All baroque
music is more and more for museums, not for live concerts that people will
pay an admission fee to attend.

ShartanX has just uploaded the Beethoven Missa Solemnis. Highly recommended!

I am sure The André Jute could provide us with an *opinion*.

Interesting - a mass written as a concert piece [1].

[1] Op. 123 is liturgically incorrect and too long, too difficult, and
requires too large of forces for use as an actual service mass. [2]

[2] Of course, much the same is true of BWV 232.

You do not get to be a music critic for a publisher without having some
credibility.

But that is what I like about it. It is indeed a concert piece. I simply
hate most sacred music. All that blather about God sickens me, no matter how
magnificent the music. Mozart and Schubert also wrote masses that were more
concert pieces than church music.

The fatal flaw of Bach for me was his religiosity. In fact, it is what ruins
most baroque music for me.
