"Chav yer car up" tape
There has been talk on here of excellent reflective tape available
from the "Chav yer car up" section of Halfords. Here's a little warning: It says on the packet that the tape can be lifted and repositioned if done straight away. This length of time is measured in nanoseconds. The tape also tears very easily, leaving a not very aesthetically pleasing ragged looking bit of tape stuck fast to the paintwork. However, in terms of reflective properties - it is simply excellent. -- If, as Einstein said, space is curved and occupies ten dimensions including time; How can you be certain which is the underneath of a ladder? And how can you be certain you haven't already walked under one next week? |

I've been using it for years and it's very good. Halfords doesn't seem to stock it in the obvious (I thought!) trailers/caravans/towing section of the shop, so I was quite surprised when I found it recently amongst the window tint films and the like. It sticks superbly to painted or plain metal surfaces and most plastics. One tip: removing the tape once it's been on for months or years is Very Difficult. If you think you might want to remove it in the future, for example if it's been badly chipped or is coming apart, is to put cut-to-shape insulating tape on the surface first and stick the tape to that. Becky Good tip, I've had some tape for a while, I've been wanting to stick it on my cycles for a while now, this weekend if I get time. -- Mark 1x1 wheel, 3x2 wheels & 1x3 wheels. |

Snip warnings For us foreigners what is the translation for "Chav yer car up"? If you'll forgive the somewhat discriminatory etymology, I believe you may recognize the terms "ricer" or "rice boy". These characters "chav up" their Far-Eastern vehicles with ridiculous spoilers, lights, graphics, wheels and ICE to give the appearance of a much more expensive and high-performance vehicle. The CYCU section of Halfords supplies products to enable said chavving to occur. Having said all that, this thread is the first time I've seen the verb "to chav". -- Mark. http://tranchant.plus.com/ |

Take an ordinary automobile and cover it in things which have no effect on the performance at all, but allow you to make a Personal Statement[1] about your high performance aspirations. Beyond boring old go-faster stripes there are alloy wheels, low profile tyres, spoilers (the best ones wouldn't look out of place on a fighter aircraft), exhaust systems which have wide pipes and somewhat partially successful silencers/mufflers, paint jobs with sparkly finishes and/or that change colour according to viewing angle, LEDs on the windscreen washer nipples and/or the underside of the car beneath the doors, deep tinted windows and sound systems that have bmchkka bmchkka noises reverberating around the neighbourhood while the driver cruises around it in circles. The cars don't generally /go/ any better than a typical family hatchback, because the owners are the sort of age that couldn't afford to insure a genuinely hot car even if they could afford to buy it. Faced with lack of go, they try and substitute show. Pete.
