TdF Question

Speaking of TdF clothing... ...do they have someone waiting at the finish line with a heat press, team logos, and yellow jerseys in a range of sizes? Do they put the winner's logo on the jersey du jour every day, or just for the finish? Do they provide a new jersey every day (assuming A Certain Party keeps winning it)? The "4titude" poster on my wall (mooched from a branch of the federal government) shows a pristinely clean jersey and USPS logo. Clearly it didn't get sweat, bugs, and champagne spilled on it. Here in metro Detroit, most sports fans have clothing that looks just like their favorite players' uniform tops; a lot of Red Wings jerseys are roaming the shopping malls. Last night I was (gasp!) driving, and followed a non-vehicular Defective Cyclist (R) (TM) down the street, in his Full Postal kit. (He was giving that team a bad name.) The other night while riding in my new T-shirt (I searched several different *.Marts for a bright, Lance-lemon one) I got to thinking what the world would look like if cycling fans adopted this trend. Fortunately, most of us look OK in tight stretchy lycra. Time for my favorite quote... --Karen M. "Daddy, why is that man wearing your shirt?" --Luke A. a couple years ago They actually have one of every combination of every jersey (green, white, yellow, polka) and every team in podium version (zipper in back, extra big to go over your real jersey), actual race jersey, and skin suit. Then whichever ones they use get recreated so there are no gaps for the next day. There was a short video in last year's Tour about the guy who did all that. So yes, there actually exist official yellow jerseys for teams that will never have them; those probably get destroyed after the race. -- Check out my bike blog! http://diabloscott.blogspot.com -------------------------- Posted via cyclingforums.com http://www.cyclingforums.com |

Yes, just like all the confiscated items at airports absolutely positively go directly to the trash compactor and **no one** picks them over. --Karen M. still missing my 20-yo set of tools taken by TSA in April |

I'm sorry, but even though they are great athletes, I just can't compare Indurain and Armstrong to Eddy. They are TdF specialists only. They don't take chances on the other events. The Cannibal, by contrast, went for EVERYTHING. He's the greatest of all time - for all time. That's just what I think. It's still apples and oranges - much like the home run records of today vs. Babe Ruth's time. Would the Babe have hit as many HRs had he been facing Randy Johnson or Curt Shilling (my AZ bias showing) regularly? Who knows - but they throw a lot harder than the pitchers of a century ago. Compare the speeds of the TdF today to those in Eddy's day - much, much faster - and very little of that speed is due to technology. The sport of cycling has evolved into a more competitive and specialized sport - and sadly I don't think we'll ever see anyone dominate in all aspects again (including winning the green, yellow and polka dot jersey in the same tour). That said, I agree - he was the best. Mark Hickey Habanero Cycles http://www.habcycles.com Home of the $695 ti frame |

It appears that someone forgot to tell them that if you become title sponsor for the defending champion of the Tour de France, then during the Tour de France, your web traffic might go up a bit. In other words, at the time when they are best poised to exploit the massive amount of publicity they paid dearly for, their website is completely hooped. It's back up now. --Karen M. not going to buy any flooring, either |

I thought the kidney punch was in the Giro. He also had a lifelong battle with a back injury from a crash on the track- in, what, 1969? - before he won any Tours. I think that back injury was during a motor-paced event --- I thought it was on the road, but maybe the track, and it was after he had won at least his first Tour. The reference I found does not mention the back injury, but says: "Wearing the Yellow Jersey of race leader, Merckx was riding toward the unthinkable, a sixth Tour victory. As he climbed to the top of the Puy de Dome, a French fan punched Merckx in the ribs, briefly disrupting his breathing. The assault, plus the fact that Bernard Thevenet was riding a brilliant race, finally defeated the Belgian champion. Merckx would never win Le Tour again." http://townsleyb.members.beeb.net/procycle/merckxe.htm -- David L. Johnson __o | This is my religion. TdF jerseys (was question about consecutive wins and billboarded clothing)
This is just funny.
http://www.cyclingnews.com/tour.php?.../VIRENQUE-2020 Don't tell me--they've got schizzo combinations of each of the four jerseys ready, just in case someone is the best climber/overall leader/young rider/whatever green is. I know--color-blocking, with THREE combinations! Or four! --Karen M. already tossed it to alt.sewing |
