At any rate, I don't want tires that are sodamn hard to mount.
It's okay in the shop, but not while riding--when as often as not
there will be others waiting for me. So I'm going to order some
of a different kind. I have the Marathons that Jay mentioned on
my list, and the previous Continentals I've used with some success
seems to be ULTRARACE and GRANDSPORT RACE. So I'll look for these
as well as the GP 4000s.

Was this a synthetic cord? (folding tire) If so these will
stretch over time and will go on and off quite easily.

Yes, I believe so, but after some months in use they haven't
gotten noticeably easier to mount. Maybe it takes longer.

It shouldn't take more than one installation and perhaps a week on the bike for them to stretch out. I think that you in some manner got a bad batch.

So, you're saying that everyone that gets a folding tire that doesn't stretch over time has got their tire from a bad batch? Inconceivable! I stated that I did not have my tire stretch over time and A. Muzi said he doesn't see folding tires stretching over time either.

Cheers

The stretching is minimal and anyone that uses a folding tire can notice by how difficult it is to mount the first time and after that. When ever you weave the thread it is normally not pulled tight enough to be completely compressed to its limit. This is one of the reasons that you don't use braded rope in many uses.

Default Continental Ultra Sport tires

Hi all,

I've used mostly Continental tires for over 20 years and nearly
100K miles of road riding. Recently I got a half dozen Ultra
Sports (700c x 25), and after putting a new on on the front
noticed a definite bounce as it rolls. I've tried three now, with
the same results. The wheel is very true and round, with no flat
spots.

This review includes a video that shows what miine look like:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-r...SIN=B00HPSCDBE

On top of that, they are damn hard to mount on the wheels! I've
met few tires I can't get onto the rim with just my hands, but
these are almost impossible to mount even with levers.

Is this a known problem with this model of tire? I've used the
Gand Prix and other models before--mabey have used the Ultra Sport
before, but don't keep close track.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Fair point. I paid more than $10 (maybe ~$20?), but they were
definitely low cost. Last week I picked up a couple of GPs.
They were easier to mount (but still somewhat hard, requiring abit
of levering). I ended up with a flat spot on each tire, but they
have resolved (bead fully seating) in the last week or so of
riding.
