Default Rear derailleur lateral play

Hi All

Does anyone know what's the maximum acceptable amount of lateral play
@ the bottom of a long cage XT rear derailleur? Does Sheemongo give
this info? In other words how can one tell if a derailleur is worn
out?

Thanks for any info. John

there's a degree of lateral from factory - it's there to allow the cage
to mitigate the extremes of leading chain line when in highest or lowest
gears. it's "worn" when it no longer changes gears satisfactorily.

John- In other words how can one tell if a derailleur is worn
out? BRBR

Replace the least expensive things first. Clean drivetrain, new inner wire and
good housing. If it still doesn't shift well, and the shifter is working OK,
probably the rear der.
