Minsk (Bielorussia) - Zinaida Stahurskaia, 38 anni originaria di
Vitebk, campionessa del mondo a Plouay (Fra) nel 2000 e vincitrice
del
Tour de France 2002 in maglia Chirio Forno d’Asolo è deceduta oggi
pomeriggio in allenamento mentre rifiniva la preparazione in vista
del
campionato nazionale in programma domani a Minsk. La fine della
campionessa bielorussa è stata a dir poco orribile.

Source? Nothing on Tuttobiciweb.it or Gazzetta.it. And what was somewhat
horrible about her death?

She was hit head on by a jeep, which changed lane.

What's really ****ing lousy about every auto on cyclist incidence of
violence is that it's always avoidable and you usually find the best
elements of a human in a cyclist (grace, athleticism, enviromentalism,
selflessness, harmony, intellegence, etc) and in the drivers of these
vehicles you find the worst (selfishness, self-important, careless,
ignorant, lazy, etc).

It's a crime when anyone dies through wrecklessness but these
incidents are always a stark contrast in human behavior and
potential.

I would be very cautious about assigning faults to one party or
another, in this particular case.
I just visited with Michele Fanini, who has been so close to Zinaida
over many years, and we talked a bit about what happened, or perhaps
might have happened.
It appears that there was some not very responsible behaviour in her
style of riding in this circumstance.

Poor child her surviving daughter!

Watching "racing" club rides around here I'm quite surprised that more
people are killed during these rides. I've watched riders running red lights
in front of speeding traffic that has to slam on their brakes. Even the
"noon ride" around Woodside has commonly done really stupid crap like this
to the point that car drivers don't trust any bike riders in that area any
more.

The Driver who hit ZS fell asleep at the wheel. This is simliar to the
Sheriff who killed Matt Peterson and Kristy Gough. They both drifted across
into the paths of the bikes.
