To be fair, Jan the Man didn't use it as an excuse at all in the short
after-race interview.


God damn, what a disappointing start to the Tour. A lot of suspense out
the back window.

He had a ****in bandage on his neck bigger than a small bird. Nonetheless,
Vinokourov (who wasn't using those funky elliptical chainrings) looks to
be in good position.

Belgian tv was standing next to the trailer where Ullrich gave his
post-race interview to German tv, picking up the audio, and reported
afterwards (apparently he had the bandage off by then) that the jab did
look awfully big.
