Default Automatic-charging LED Bicycle Lamp Developed in Taiwan

http://news.cens.com/cens/html/en/ne...ner_25524.html

Taipei, Dec. 1, 2008 (CENS)--Cycling & Health R&D Center (CHC), a
government-sponsored bicycle and health product development citadel in
Taiwan, recently announced that three private companies on the island
have jointly developed an automatic-charging LED bicycle lamp.

The high-tech LED bicycle lamp will be commercialized and launched in
the market in February 2009, CHC said.

Lee Shui-yuan, president of Acxing Industrial Co., Ltd., one of the
joint developers, pointed out that the new LED bicycle lamp is the only
multi-function LED illumination device available on the market that can
function as a bicycle front lamp, rear warning light, brake lamp, or an
emergency flashlight. He added that his company would try to cooperate
with world-class bicycle makers in Taiwan, such as Giant and Merida, to
effectively popularize the new innovation.

Acxing is the developer of the battery-free bicycle front light and its
automatic charging system, which weighs only 100kg. According to Lee,
the mini generator is located at a bicycle`s front fork and utilizes the
friction between the wheel rim and a sensor to generate electricity
power. The new-type power-generation system also features very low
resistance force and easy-installation.

So what does the Acxing system have that the Danish Reelight system
doesn't already have?

The light and charger "weighs only 100kg"? That's heavier than
I am.

If you include the rider in the charging system, maybe the claim's not that
far off.
