Default Cyclist seriously injured by ball bearing in St Leonards - driver arrested

Thug has been caught.
QUOTE:
Police are appealing for witnesses after the incident in Bexhill Road at around 6.20pm on Friday evening (July 10).

The 65-year-old, who had been cycling near the junction with Harley Shute Road, suffered a head injury.

He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, where police say he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Then on Saturday (July 11), police said a 37-year-old man contacted officers to report he had been hit with a pellet from a BB gun – fired by a man in a passing vehicle.

This happened at around 12.30pm on Mount Pleasant Road in Hastings, and did not result in serious injury, police said.

Investigating officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed either incident, particularly anyone who may have any relevant dash cam footage from Bexhill Road at the time of the offence.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police online or by calling 101 quoting Operation Falmouth.

Sussex Police say a 26-year-old man from St Leonards has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He remains in police custody at this time.

Well done to the police!

The criminal in the car is being charged with GBH, but the cyclist victim did suffer a "serious injury". Poor reporting.

The same story from a different source.

A CYCLIST was seriously injured when he was hit with a ball bearing.

The 65-year-old was pedalling along Harley Shute Road in Hastings on Friday when he was struck by the projectile at about 6.20pm.

He suffered a head injury and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

Two days later, he remains at the site in a "serious but stable condition".

But this is not the only incident of this nature to have been reported over the last few days.

Shortly after noon on Saturday, a 37-year-old man told police he had been hit with a pellet fired from a BB gun by a person in a passing vehicle.

The second incident again happened in Hastings, with the man targeted in Mount Pleasant Road.

The victim did not suffer any serious injuries.

Following the two similar events, Sussex Police have launched an appeal for information as they look to establish the circumstances surrounding the incidents.

A spokesman said: "Investigating officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed either incident, particularly anyone who may have any relevant dash cam footage from Bexhill Road at the time of the offence.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact police online or by calling 101 quoting Operation Falmouth."

Officers have also made an arrest in connection with the incidents.

The spokesman said: "A 26-year-old man from St Leonards has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He remains in police custody at this time."
