That would be an interesting engineering problem- a hulking 6' 5" FM

come in a men's size 14?

I'll bet they do. But I won't be the one to google that
and find out.

Interesting. We simultaneously typed almost the same words. Actually,
I guess I'm a Californian. *If the USA was like the southern ********s

Like I said tolerance isn't your gig. I've lived in Miami, Orlando,
Biloxi, Augusta, and San Antonio for varying lengths of time. San
Antonio is the one I don't know pretty well, but I really enjoyed all
of them, probably because I'm not handicapped by the delusion I'm a
superior breed of human.
*Lots of American's over in Europe who think that way too, that's
where the term "ugly American" came from and why lots of folks in
military towns there hate Americans.
*Bill C

Um... no. *The Ugly Americans are the ones who "love" their country:

"The Encarta dictionary defines "Ugly American" as: stereotypical
offensive American: a loud, boorish, nationalistic American,
especially one traveling abroad, who is regarded as conforming to a
stereotype that gives Americans a bad reputation."

I was always interested new ideas.

As for definition I like this one better:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ugly_American

Ugly American is an epithet used to refer to perceptions of loud,
arrogant, demeaning, thoughtless and ethnocentric behavior of American
citizens mainly abroad, but also at home. Although the term is usually
associated with or applied to travellers and tourists, it also applies
to US corporate businesses in the international arena.

I think it's a little sharper and more accurately reflects the reality
I experienced. The ethnocentrism in your case would be the bigotted,
egotistical, intolerant, arrogant, hard core progressive culture that
seems to be the only one you have any respect for.

Paul is comical. But he grows old very rapidly. I put him on ignore years
ago. I suggest you do the same. It's like trying to converse intelligently
with a possum.

BTW - I started out as an electronics tech too but kept being promoted. They
kept inventing new levels of tech in order to keep raising my pay. They
started Senior Tech, then Master Tech, then I'd pretty much had enough with
Super Tech. When they started eliminating techs in the higher pay grades I
finally moved into engineering. It didn't much matter since I'd been
engineering for 10 years before I got the title.

I retired as an electronics engineer and firmware programmer now that almost
all of the "normal" electronics has moved to China and India. What the
moronic company owners are about to discover is that once you teach the
Chinese and the Indians what you do, they can do it very well indeed without
your management.

It should be noted that company managers have been treating engineers like
absolute crap for a couple of decades or more. Now they're complaining that
they have to send stuff overseas because there are insufficient American
engineers. And yet American enrolment in engineering programs is falling and
not growing. Electronics engineers in the USA are out of work 1/3rd of the
time on the average. Does that sound like a business that someone that's
smart is going to get into?

They stopped hiring people a long time ago. They have their pick of the
litter so to speak. Back when I could have gotten a job there, I was
employed at a neighboring company that was the greatest place I'd ever
worked before or since.

I would read this as "company managers have been treating Tom Kunich
like absolute crap for a couple of decades or more" Having spent my
career at HP, I can say that at least that company treated engineers
pretty well. While I can't speak for other companies, I would be very
surprised if those at Google or other successful companies are unhappy.

Dumbass -

The problem is the quality of that lower tier of American engineers.
It's not that good, hence their status as unemployed.

When cutting edge companies are complaining about not having enough of
a labor force to choose from they are talking about the top tier.
There really is a shortage.

thanks,

K. Gringioni.

Dave, HP is recognized as one of the exceptions to the rule. However, the
word is that more and more design is being moved overseas. Is that the case
in your experience?

Let me underscore this - I worked at 42 companies in my career and all but
two of them went out of business mostly due to mismanagement. There are very
few engineers that have worked a very long time for a single company.

We can recognize the exceptions such as HP, Xilinx, Cadence and a few
others. As for Google and Yahoo! - let's wait and see. Usually companies
doing well in their early life treat their employees well. It's when they
start trying to increase profits that problems start.
