which is better ride: C & 0 canal or Delaware/Raritan?

Also seeking a multi-day ride on either of the above. Any
recommendation as to which would be more interesting? I assume I would
have to rent a moutain bike as I have a touring bike. If C & O, any
recommendation for the best part, and how to get back to the start
point? Looking at about 3 days of riding, maybe 35 miles a day; maybe
a little more. I'm less interested in being out in the middle of
"nowhere" as occasional juctures with small communities.

The C&O canal is a much better choice. The scenery is generally nicer
and the trail is a lot longer. You should be able to ride either of
them on your touring bike, though the C&O might be iffy if there has
been a lot of recent rain. The D&R has more "civilization" and less
wilderness than the C&O.

Not sure how you could get back to the starting point, but perhaps by
Amtrak. Check with them to see if they carry bikes between the points
you might be considering. When I was on it I did a series of day
trips, returning to my car each day.

I agree that the C&O is more 'wild' but three days at 35 miles a day would
allow you to do only slightly more than 1/2 the canal.

The D&R towpath drains better than the C&O.

Harpers Ferry although it is not a full service Amtrak station.

Brunswick and places East are served by MARC trains.
