Gerben de Knegt was right in front until (out of sight, unfortunately) he
first tacoed his backwheel somehow and then, just as he closed 15 sec on
the leaders between two timing points, tore off his derailleur. At that
point he called it a day.

Nijs was toying with everyone; what else is new. About halfway, he was
content to let Groenendaal ride off the front and have him take 17 sec at
most, then left the little group where he was sitting on (with Vannoppen)
to close that gap within half a lap, and leave Groenendaal behind in the
last lap. A few corners from the end Nijs slipped in a deep sand patch,
fell and had Groenendaal back on his wheel. Before the last corner he
handily took the lead after he had let Groenendaal play in front a little,
accellerated in the last corner and bagged it easily.
