Default Driver almost hit cyclist as he fled from the police in Ormiston

Scottish courts don't mess about!
QUOTE:
A GULLANE resident who narrowly missed colliding with a cyclist as he attempted to drive away from police has been banned from the road.

Tymothe Point, of Fenton Gait East, drove a vehicle dangerously by attempting a three-point turn when it was not safe to do so during the incident in Ormiston last year.

Point just missed a passing cyclist and a pedestrian during the manoeuvre before making off and being chased by a police car.

Point then drove onto the opposite carriageway and narrowly missed a second cyclist on the nearby B6367 as he attempted his getaway.

The 19-year-old was eventually caught and pulled over by officers, who subsequently arrested him.

Point also drove a motorbike without the proper licence and insurance at Main Street in Elphinstone the following month.

Point appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court earlier this year to admit his guilt to three charges and he was back in the dock last Tuesday for sentencing.

Solicitor Joe Boyd said his client had been diagnosed with ADHD earlier this year and was now receiving medication for a bipolar condition. Mr Boyd acknowledged that Point had committed “a serious offence” but added he had not driven any vehicle since offering his guilty plea.

Sheriff Roderick Flinn said that Point had carried out “an exceptionally dangerous piece of driving” and banned him from the road for three years.

The sheriff also ordered Point to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work in the community.

Point pleaded guilty to a dangerous driving charge by driving at excessive speeds and narrowly missing a cyclist and a pedestrian at Meadowbank, Ormiston, on May 13 last year.

He also admitted to driving a motorcycle without a licence and valid insurance at Main Street, Elphinstone, on June 14 last year.

No licence, no insurance?

So he was, and remains, a cyclist.

He's fully qualified for that.

Guilty of "narrowly missing a cyclist".
Fancy that - a three year driving ban as well.
