Default Federation Trail

Looking for a route from Bundoora to Werribee.

I've heard horror stories about the federation trail. Anybody done this
ride?
Is it do-able on a road bike?

If not any other suggestions?

Cheers

It's a bit rough for new bitumen, but I had no problems last week.

The ring road path is a good way to get there. Check the maps for
details of the bits where it passes Pascoe Vale railway stn, the Moonee
ponds creek junction and Melrose st. These can be a bit confusing.
