Horrors. Tim even omitted the obligatory and ceremonial salutation,
'dumbass'.

"That 70s Show" must be de rigeur on r.b.r. these days.

Because among the noted here that is considered derigor. What's more,
Amit is slavishly attentive to anything that might smack of not
worshiping Henry.

Dumbass,

Hey, we resent that. Although we rbr has-beens are
indeed Masters Fatties, most of us are only in our 40s.
We just look like we are in our 70s from too many
hours spent doing intervals and weighing our
oatmeal.

Another charming contestant, I see. *Perhaps you didn't work out
the basics, which are that I didn't initiate the cross-posting. *I
did, out of courtesy for those r.b.r. participants who can converse
without displaying terminal brain rot, include r.b.r. in my reply.
*The result was predictable, of course, but you never know.
*Incivility took over that newsgroup years ago, it was possible
that civility had staged a comeback. *Apparently not, however.
*Intelligence appears to continue to shun r.b.r.

It's very odd that you seem to think that your posts will come
across as either civil or interesting.

People are free, of course, to form an alternate opinion. It seems
rather peculiar for someone to call a poster "dumbass" and then go on to
agree with him, however.

I initiated the cross-posting to get rbr opinions on the cross-course
questions, and several rbr regulars have posted useful or at least
on-topic responses. You're the only one who's getting upset or
calling people out -

That's a rather extremified interpretation of pointing out gratuitous
rudeness and incivility- "calling people out?" My goodness, if the
above comment would be considered "calling someone out" on r.b.r., then
clearly the overly think-skinned reside there.

As for getting upset, well, you'd know if I was getting upset. Thus far
I've just been mildly amused. Puerility is just not funny for very
long, unfortunately, and it rapidly descends into stupidity. The shelf
life is about three posts.

apart from amit's use of "dumbass," which is merely a ritual
salutation in rbr. It serves to freak out thin-skinned people who
respond only to the salutation and don't read the content of the post
- the rest of amit's post was perfectly reasonable.

Indeed, since he substantially agreed with me, I found the rest of his
post quite reasonable. ;-)

This is a little bit like the good-natured woofing or trash talk that
happens on group training rides.

Hmmm, being an old fogey along with my peers, my group "training" rides
are distinctly lacking in trash talk and the like. Art, photography,
music, movies, family matters and of course bike gear are the main
topics. And even back in my racing days, my club was distinctly lacking
in trash talkers, except in pure jest on occasion. But to each there
own- whatever makes it fun to ride your bike.

It is ironic to see rbr decried as a cesspool of vitriol when
r.b.tech has seen many long flamefests full of name-calling and
responding to pointless flame bait (posters AJ and jb, for example).
rbr is frequently off topic but, when on topic, frequently sensible.
Except when some dumbass gets all upset about being called dumbass.

Thankfully, then, r.b.r. was not decried as a cesspool of vitriol and no
one got upset about being called a dumbass. Whew! Crisis averted!

Ben RBR Minister of Special Ed

Thanks, Ed.

Dumbass,

A Zen-like pithiness! Congratulations on the best post in the thread.

We've had such charming people including those who managed to offend
posters such as Andy Hampsten, Roy Knickman and someone I suspect was
Davis Phinney.

The central group on r.b.r. is actually proud of that record and
attempts to match it any chance they get.

I remember John Howard's first- and IIRC only- post to r.b.r. years
back, upon which scorn was heaped with fine generosity.

Does Adam Myerson still post? He seemed to have a thick hide and no
trouble holding his own.

Jeez, now you guys have me wondering where I put my r.b.r. jersey.

Who?

The real name of Kurgan Gringioni is Henry Chang. When Henry first started
posting here he was interesting and informed. He later changed his posting
name so that he could be one of the group jackasses.

That's the standard operating procedure for people who don't want their
names connected to the stuff they post.

I don't know. It was suggested to me that one of the particularly obnoxious
butt-heads here was Adam but to tell you the truth I exchanged emails with
Adam a number of years ago and was actually impressed by his intelligence.
There didn't appear to be any intelligence in the poster that was said to be
Adam.

I like to wear it when I'm riding with little old men and women.
