Imported custom aluminum frames?
My recent crash and injuries have me ruminating about what I'll be
getting in the way of safe and sturdy future bike frames. I am confident in my old stalwart frames, long proven and nicely overbuilt in the days before computer stress modeling. And I have a gorgeous custom frame by David Bohm that is certainly as strong as anybody could need. But I have now two bikes whose frames are no longer of any use, and I would like to furnish them with replacement frames that are more robust than those generally available now. One of them was grafted together from two other frames and is thus of unconventional geometry to boot. I seem to recall that some folks have had one-off aluminum bicycle frames built in Taiwan, at a price that was much less than a made-to-spec frame would cost from a full-service framebuilder. I am curious as to whether anybody posting here has gotten one? If so, was the product satisfactory? What options were offered, and what were the terms? I would appreciate a referral from any satisfied buyer of such a frame. Chalo Colina |
